Best of the Year

I've been readying my best of the year column for Locus -- and I thought, since DiFi expressed some interest a while back, after his own excellent post on this topic, that I'd post the list of my ten favorite sf/fantasy novels of 2009.

I write about these books in some detail in the article itself, which I don't want to preempt here, but I don't think it can do any harm simply to provide the list, especially for those desperately looking for some last-minute gifties.  So without further ado, and in no particular order:

The City & The City, China Mieville
Finch, Jeff VanderMeer
The Babylonian Trilogy, Seb Doubinsky
Last Days, Brian Evanson
Big Machine, Victor LaValle
Palimpsest, Catherynne M. Valente
Lifelode, Jo Walton
Madness of Flowers, Jay Lake
The Dark Volume, Gordon Dahlquist
The Silver Skull, Mark Chadbourn
