Yesterday I bought this book of gag cartoons. It was a winner.

The artist, whose real name was Yvan Le Louarn, seems utterly forgotten these days--at least on the web. There are a few of his cartoons floating about, but no significant appreciations. He's unknown to the English Wikipedia, but the French version has an entry for him. Here's a link to a cockeyed translation of that page:

If you admire the sample cartoons printed below, I think you'll agree that Chaval deserves to have his place restored in the cartoon lineage. The one with the bull peering into the hospital room of the bullfighter cracks me up each time I look at it.

There are over ten copies of this book for sale at Abebooks.
