Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun

A while back I posted about the European Space Agency contest for an MP3 playlist of tunes to send up for the astronauts in the International Space Station.  We have a winner, 14-year-old Therese Miljeteig of Norway.  Her playlist will be downloaded onto an MP3 player and sent to the International Space Station on board ESA’s Automated Transfer Vehicle in early 2008.

Congratulations to Therese -- but I must say, her selections are . . . well, disappointing.  Was this really the best the judges could find?

Here Comes The Sun – The Beatles
Come Fly With Me – Frank Sinatra
Rocket Man – Elton John
Up Where We Belong – Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes
Imagine – John Lennon
Flashdance... What A Feeling – Irene Cara
Walk of Life – Dire Straits
Fly – Celine Dion
Rockin' All Over The World – Status Quo
I Believe I Can Fly – R Kelly

Gonna be a lot of volunteering for spacewalks on that mission!
